WINCOMBE TOWN WIN FINAL
Congratulation to Winchcombe Town FC, after their success in the Cheltenham League Senior Charity Cup on
Wednesday 19th April. Winchcombe won the cup for the first time since 2001 when they defeated Smiths
Athletic Reserves 1-0 in what could only be described as a disappointing final at Whaddon Road. The winning
goal of a game that produced few clear chances was scored by Stock on 20 minutes and Smiths Athletic finished the match with only 9 after two of their players, and one from the dugout were sent off. It was unfortunate that Smith’s couldn’t keep their composure, but after witnessing the genuinely stupid errors and seeming
endless bookings for both sides, you can’t blame them entirely. I was only a spectator and we were all frustrated by the poor refereeing. Towards the end of the game whilst playing with only 9 men, Smith’s seemed to
be the stronger team and I am convinced that had they kept their cool, they could have taken the game into extra time.

WORLD CHAMPION LANCIA
Mike Hawthorne's car coming to Rotary Classic car Charity Hill climb at Prescott. There are a record number of bookings now for the Charity Hill climb event at the famous Prescott Hill climb
near Winchcombe. The bookings for the event on the 14th May is running at an all time high at over 200 cars
but there are still places for people to display their beautiful classic cars for others to enjoy. Spectators will be
made welcome to enjoy cars that include Mike Hawthorne's famous world champion Lancia amongst 25 other
Lancia’s from 1920 onwards; together with so many other classic cars beautifully restored and loved by their
owners. All profits will go to Charities supported by the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale. The event
raised £4,000 last year for Rotary Charities and looks set to increase this amount substantially this year. Owners have the rare opportunity to take their cars up the Hill climb creating a spectacle of motoring history for all
to enjoy.
